Rekindle examines God’s design for marriage and applies principles from the Bible to guide each husband and wife towards growth in their relationship with each other.
When and where does Rekindle meet?
We meet every Wednesday night at 6:30pm at Compass Christian Church, 1825 South Alma School Rd., Chandler, AZ 85286 in room C-100.
What is the origin of Rekindle?
The program was launched as “Re|Engage” at Watermark Community Church in September 2008 and has since expanded to other churches in the DFW area and nationwide. It was launched at Compass Christian in September of 2012.
What does a typical night at Rekindle “look like”?
The format of the Wednesday night is as follows:
- 6:30p-7:15pm – Large Group Time (worship and testimony/teaching)
- 7:15p-8:30pm – Small Group Time (different options)
- 1st Night: Newcomers Group
- 2nd Night (and following): Open Group
- Closed Group: When/if you and your spouse decide to join a Closed Group, we’ll put you in a group with other couples and a facilitator couple, and you’ll work through a Rekindle participant’s guide together. Once this group starts, you can expect it to last 4-6 months.
Will I be asked a lot of personal questions at Rekindle?
There is no personal sharing required during the large group meeting. Though we encourage you to remain active in group discussion, any personal sharing during the small group meetings is voluntary.
How do I know that what I share at Rekindle will be kept confidential? Will it be a safe place to share?
We believe that scripture calls us to refrain from gossip and we ask all participants and facilitators to adhere to the guidelines that what is discussed in the group stays in the group. Rekindle facilitators are encouraged to operate under the direction of God’s Word in handling the information shared in the group. Facilitators may seek the guidance of the Rekindle staff if they have questions or concerns. In order to provide the most effective and safe environment, the facilitators and staff have committed to not share information about others outside the group except in the event of the threat of physical, emotional or spiritual injury.
Can I be honest with people about what is going on in our marriage?
Our prayer is that you will feel safe to share within your small group. We find that the more authentic and transparent couples can be with others, the more they find hope and healing within their marriage.
Is Rekindle marriage counseling?
Rekindle is not marriage counseling and the leaders are facilitators, not counselors. They are also growing in their own marriages. Everyone in the group is on the journey to oneness in marriage. We believe that openness and honesty in a small group setting, using a Biblically-based curriculum, is where God works to grow and resurrect marriages.
Although the Pastor of Marriage and Family Ministries is a Licensed Professional Counselor, he is not in the role of a counselor during Rekindle and no professional services are rendered as part of the Rekindle program.
What about my children?
As much as we enjoy children, we know that even the best behaved kids can be distracting in the wrong environment. We want parents and all ReKindle participants to be fully focused on the material in both the large and small groups. For this reason, we ask that you use our Kingdom Kids child care for children birth through 6th grade, which is provided at no charge. Children may not accompany their parents in this adults-only program.
How do I get set up for childcare?
We encourage you to pre-register your children to ensure that we will have space for them. Families will enter through the main worship center’s lobby. The check in area is located on the south side of the main worship center. Parents will be informed at check in to which room your child/children will be assigned and given directions as to where those rooms are located. Child care check-in begins at 6:00 pm. The child care service closes at 8:45 pm.
Can I just come and visit, or do I have to commit to something?
Until you join a closed group, there is no commitment necessary. Your first night you will join us at 6:30 pm for a large group time of praise and worship and a teaching or testimony, and then you will go to the Newcomers Group. The Newcomers Group is a great place for you to hear more about the heart and history behind Rekindle, and give you a chance to ask any questions that you might have. The fall 2016 Closed Groups will all be assigned in the first week of the program.
Is there a charge for Rekindle?
There is no charge to attend the Large Group meeting, or the Newcomer’s or Open groups. If you decide you want to be in a closed group there is a $50 one-time fee. This fee can be waived if it creates a hardship.
There is no charge for childcare at this time.
How much time each week outside of the meeting is required to be part of Rekindle?
Completion of the curriculum will take approximately 30 – 60 minutes each week. The time required will vary, but it is designed for minimal time commitment.
What commitment do I have to make?
Once you join a closed group, working through the Rekindle curriculum will require a 4-6 month commitment. This is the time in which the group is working through the curriculum together.
I don’t know if I’ll have a marriage by the end of the month. Is Rekindle a good place for us?
Absolutely! There are many couples who have attended, or are attending, who are separated or divorced. While the outcome is based on the work each individual is willing to do to save their marriage, the platform provides a safe place to focus on what a healthy marriage should look like, and it provides some tools to help grow toward this goal.
We don’t like spending time with each other anymore. Will we have to interact together?
While you will be in a small group together, each of you will be sharing about what you learn personally each week. However, there are some exercises that may require you to interact with each other throughout the process.
I have no hope anymore. Is this a place where we can find hope?
Our prayer is that you will find hope that can come through allowing God to do a mighty work within your marriage.
My marriage is doing well. Can we benefit by attending Rekindle?
Whether your marriage needs to be reignited, or is in need of a complete resurrection, Rekindle is a safe place for couples to reconnect.
We have only been married for 6 months. Can we still come?
Absolutely! In fact, participating in Rekindle at this stage in your marriage is a great idea! The program will provide a strong foundation for your marriage.
What are the requirements if I want to join a closed Group?
Closed Groups are for those couples that are fully committed to making change in their marriage. When you commit to a Closed Group you become part of a group of couples who will learn and grow together through the 16 lessons of Rekindle. The bonds that form are a significant part of the change process for everyone in the group. For these reasons consistent attendance is paramount to making Closed Groups work. While we understand that an occasional absence may be unavoidable, the expectation is that there will be no more than three absences throughout the duration of the Closed Group.
Please note that you must submit a signed Closed Group Request form (both sides) to be considered for the next closed Group. You will not be considered for a Closed Group until that form has been received. The fall 2016 Closed Groups will all be assigned in the first week of the program.
What if Rekindle is a fit for me but not for my spouse?
Rekindle is a ministry for couples. Individuals are welcome to attend two or three meetings and participate in Open Group to get a sense of what Rekindle is all about, but both spouses are required for longer term attendance. This also applies if couples are assigned to a Closed Group and then one spouse decides that
Rekindle is not a match for their needs. If you find yourself in this situation, please let us know and we will attempt to direct you to other resources.
We are living together, but not married. Is this ministry for us?
Rekindle is reserved for those couples who are married or divorced and wish to reunite with their spouse. We suggest you elect to focus on marriage preparation through a pre-marital class. If you would like more information on the pre-marital class please contact Carrie Clare.
For any other questions regarding Rekindle, please contact Tim Hofmann, Pastor of Marriage and Family Ministries.
