Church at Home

Dear Compass Family,

I hope this finds you and your family doing well. I wanted to take a moment to thank you for embracing the challenges we’re currently facing as a church with a great attitude and positive outlook. I’m sure you’re missing being able to meet together as much as I am. YET on a positive note, living on mission in our neighborhoods and meeting in homes like this has really made me appreciate the pattern of the early church. They gathered in big groups, but they also met in homes for teaching, prayer, communion, and fellowship—much like we are doing these days!

Our leadership team has been seeking the Lord over the last few weeks regarding the right approach to take as a church during the coronavirus crisis. Although we’re praying for a speedy end to the situation,  we feel that the wisest thing to do is to continue meeting in homes for the next three weeks as our campus remains closed. Unfortunately, this includes Easter on April 12. Rest assured, our creative arts and teaching team has a great online experience planned that we can all look forward to. At the same time, if the local and national government reverses course and allows for large gatherings, we have a plan ready for meeting on campus. At this point, we’re planning to continue #ChurchAtHome. So gather with your family each weekend for worship AND share the link to share your faith! People are very open during these strange times. Who knows how many #PrayForOne baptisms we might see come from this, so be proactive and BOLD!

Additionally, I want to say “THANK YOU” to everyone who has continued to give tithes and offerings so generously. Marie and I give via text every week. Many give online, and I know that more of you have changed to giving online as well. We are so grateful you are continuing to trust God in this way! It is making a difference for the future of Compass and for people in need in our community!

At the same time, we understand that many people in our community and within our church family have lost jobs and may be facing an uncertain financial future. Naturally, that would impact your ability to give at the level you might have previously been giving. So, thank you for your continued generosity, even at such a challenging time.

As a church, we have tightened our belt financially. We are using our facilities minimally, and our staff is working from home. We’ve shifted to an essentials only budget, meaning we’ve prioritized our staff, missionaries, helping those in need, and only expenses we consider to be mission-critical. Our first phase of construction was funded, so that continues to progress. We will continue to monitor the situation and delay that timeline as needed. Friends, this is yet another chapter in the Uncharted journey we’ve been on as a church over the past year. And just as we’ve trusted month after month, we will continue to trust God every step of the way!

One of the most encouraging things to come out of the past few weeks has been the way our church has selflessly reached out to help others in need. We’ve heard story after story of how you’ve been the hands and feet of Jesus in practical ways.

If you have the capacity right now to reach out and help others, please sign up to be a part of our “Get Help. Give Help.” initiative. And please know that if you need help, we are here, as always, and would love to provide whatever assistance you might need.

Finally, know that our staff and elders are praying for you daily. We’re praying that you’re growing in your faith, that you’re demonstrating the selfless love of Christ, and that you’re staying healthy and well. And I pray for the day that we can meet together again face-to-face to worship, learn, and fellowship together.

Until then, may God bless you and keep you and give you His peace!

In Christ’s Love,

Pastor Brian
