DAY 019 // 20230119 // JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

Bible Summary

Today, our reading comes from Exodus 7-9 as Moses and Aaron speak to a hard-hearted Pharaoh, and God bring the first of His plagues on Egypt. Here, we can learn lessons on our own stubbornness and the power and might of God.

Pharaoh is such a bad guy from so many different angles! Not only does he not listen and go back on his word, but he also has no regard for the lives of his own people who are suffering and dying because of these plagues. While he is an extreme example of pride and stubbornness, I pray that I don’t have any of that in me even in smaller doses.

Question… you say Pharaoh does not listen and goes back on his word. Why does it say God hardens his heart each time? Is God causing him to go back on his word? I’ve read this story many time and always hear that God hardens Pharaoh heart. What is the point of that?

Good question! I think God explains that well in Exodus 10:1-2 ““Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his officials so that I may perform these signs of mine among them that you may tell your children and grandchildren how I dealt harshly with the Egyptians and how I performed my signs among them, and that you may know that I am the Lord.””

We also see in the Passover story that God used this situation to remind His people of his power and deliverance for thousands of years after this.

All these years, I’ve always thought it was just Moses who went before Pharaoh… hmmm…wonder why???

It’s really helpful to read chronologically. That’s one of the reasons I like this plan. You can see exactly how God laid out his grand rescue plan! So many times we remember a simplified version of the stories we heard as children. This gives us the whole picture!
