Breakthrough is a conference for equipping parents and students with mental health tools and skills taught by local therapists and social workers. We are presenting this conference in a dual-track format that allows parents and students to get valuable information in an environment and style that best suits them.
The adult sessions of Friday night and Saturday morning feature topics like the effects of social media on teen brain development, signs of depression, how teens process identity and hearing from a suicide survivor. There will be breaks for snacks throughout and time to talk with vendors and therapists who will have information booths set up near the sessions.
Students will hear many of the same topics but rewrapped in more interactive sessions. There will also be separate times for guy and girl breakout sessions, time for questions, and of course, plenty of breaks for food and games.
Breakthrough began as a homework assignment within a leadership class that Lindsay and Teresa were taking at Compass Christian Church. As it was presented to the class, there was such a positive response to the need in the community, that the instructor told them to “Make it happen.” Now, after working to bring Compass Christian Church, The City of Chandler and the Chandler Unified School District together for this event, this team is looking to the future with plans to put together several different events addressing the many aspects of mental health.
Thank you for joining us and being a part of an event to make a difference!
